security policy
Manchester Unity wishes to provide a safe and secure environment when visiting our site.
Secure Data Transmission
This site uses the industry standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) 128-bit encryption to keep your personal transaction details secure. A secure link is established between your browser and our server. We then scramble your personal information during transmission over the Internet.
|
The Manchester Unity Website uses Thawte as its SSL certificate provider. |
Recommended software requirements
Using the latest version of your browser provides you with the most up to date security measures. This site is designed to work with Internet Explorer v6 and above, and Netscape v6 and above, however we recommend that you upgrade to the latest version of your browser.
Check for secure browsing
You will know when transmitted data is safe by the appearance of a security notice when you enter a secure page. Also, a secure icon will appear on your browser. For Netscape, this is a key icon; for Microsoft Internet Explorer, a lock icon. Secure web pages can also be identified by their URL: they begin with 'https://', while standard pages begin with 'http://'. You will notice this feature when you are logged into Member Services.
Public (shared) computers
A public (or shared) computer is any PC that can be used by someone other than you. A public computer may not be as safe as a private computer. Possible risks include:
- Increased viruses;
- Unauthorised software;
- Maximum security options not set.
When using shared computers we recommend you follow these steps to help safeguard your privacy:
- Always sign out of Member Services by clicking on the Log out link, to close the active session;
- Close the browser by clicking on the 'x' icon on the top right hand side of the screen.
Data Storage
Information we have obtained from you in the course of business is stored in a secure data warehouse environment on our premises. This information is only available to authorised staff when processing claims, memberships enquiries or other business related tasks. Manchester Unity staff are highly trained to treat personally identifiable member information with the utmost confidentiality.
